Wood & Wooden Products Testing at Shriram Institute for Industrial Research (SRI)

At Shriram Institute for Industrial Research (SRI), we understand the critical role wood products play in global sustainability efforts. With growing concerns over climate change and carbon accounting, the focus on wood-based materials as a natural carbon sink and renewable resource has never been more important. Wood products, especially when used as substitutes for energy-intensive materials like cement, steel, and plastics, significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, making them an essential part of climate change mitigation strategies.

Through rigorous scientific analysis and testing, SRI supports the wood industry by ensuring the quality, durability, and sustainability of wood products. By promoting material certification and quality control, we contribute to the responsible manufacturing and use of wood, thus ensuring long-term environmental benefits.

The Role of Wood in Climate Change Mitigation

The use of wood products as a carbon sink---from construction materials to furniture---offers a significant reduction in fossil fuel consumption and enhances the carbon storage effect. By substituting fossil-based products with solid timber, engineered wood, and wood-based panels, we can substantially reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, using wood by-products (such as wood fuels) in energy generation during production processes offers an additional positive impact on carbon balance.

SRI plays a key role in helping the wood industry implement scientific approaches to quality control, certification, and performance evaluation, ensuring that wood products meet environmental standards and contribute to sustainable practices.
